"Abriendo terrenos" is a co-design workshop organised by the University Programme for Interdisciplinary Soil Studies (PUEIS) and the Institutes of Geology and Geography at UNAM in Mexico City, in collaboration with the Department of Architecture and Urban Studies (DAStU) at the Politecnico di Milano. The workshop will take place from 3 to 7 August 2026 (the application deadline is expected to be in May) and is aimed at students of landscape architecture, urban planning, geography, biological sciences, health sciences (psychology) and Earth sciences, as well as related fields. The programme comprises a week of intensive teaching (including theoretical lectures, site visits and laboratory activities, as well as a final presentation to external guests) on the topic of soil health at the Ciudad Universitaria campus in Mexico City, which serves both as a major university campus and an ecological reserve nestled within the city. Participants will take part in a collaborative and transdisciplinary discussion on issues relating to soil health, addressing one or more practical cases involving the removal of mineral paving and soil regeneration on the Ciudad Universitaria campus, whilst experimenting with methods for describing, manipulating and redesigning urban soils."
