The event, organised together with the TRASPOL Research Centre on Transport Policy for students of the TU Wien, will develop around the narration of the service planning strategy adopted by Lombardy Region more than 20 years ago. This resilient vision has guided the development of the regional railway network until today, overcoming the issues related to the infrastructure maintenance and its increasing occupation by long-distance trains, provided at market conditions. This experience, still evolving, is an often overlooked example of coherence between a precise strategy and its implementation through the years. Also, it is the only mature Italian attempt of giving a precise shape to the regional railway system, to make easier for people to travel by train within the region.
